Job Description
- The Nursing Supervisor works with the Nursing Staff of the facility to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct nursing functions for professional and non-professional nursing personnel to ensure the highest quality of care is provided in a cost-effective manner.
- Works with the Director of Nursing to exercise responsibility and accountability for nursing service objectives, coordinates nursing functions, activities, and nursing care, as well as providing oversight and supervision to the nursing staff, and their training and competency.
- Acts as a resource person, providing necessary information and assistance to the staff to enable them to perform their duties and responsibilities effectively.
- Serves as a primary communication link among shifts and units.
Responsibilities
- Ensures each unit is appropriately staffed at the beginning of the shift.
- Makes adjustments as necessary, replacing staff as needed for the oncoming shift.
- Makes rounds at the beginning of the assigned shift and frequently thereafter, implementing interventions as needed.
- Supervises nursing activities and promotes improvement in nursing care.
- Maintains a comfortable and pleasant environment and promotes the elimination of hazards.
- Ensures that supplies are available in proper quantities, that equipment is in good condition, and that personnel know where supplies and equipment are located and how to use them properly.
- Receives thorough reports from Charge Nurses on all shifts and works closely with them to ensure maximum total care.
- Participates in nursing care as needed and is responsible for handling any emergency situation that may arise.
- Recognizes significant changes in the condition of residents and takes appropriate action.
- Assists with care as necessary to assure quality care is provided, including assisting with ADLs, giving medications, doing treatments, supervising meal service, calling physicians, transcribing orders, etc.
- Assesses each resident in acute distress or unusual situations during scheduled time in the facility.
- Ensures that all personnel on the shift are oriented to their assigned duties.
- Assigns personnel according to various skills in relation to resident needs.
- Promotes effective work relationships with the administrator, medical staff, personnel, volunteers, agencies, and management staff affiliated with the facility.
- Attends and participates in facility meetings.
- Reviews Quality Measures and takes an active role in improving quality.
- Assists with investigations and follow-up of incidents, accidents, and grievances.
- Audits documentation as needed.
- Reports immediately to supervisor, administrator, and local law enforcement situations involving abuse, neglect, or suspicion of a crime.
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Compliance Program, HIPAA Standard, and Computer Usage Agreement.
- Performs any other responsibilities as discussed and designated by the Director of Nursing.
