Clinical Nurse - Float Pool
Location: Olathe, Kansas
Job Description:
- Utilize the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Provide safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way.
- Integrate knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care.
- Collaborate with others to integrate assessment and input of the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Ensure improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning.
- Provide direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serving as a resource, preceptor, and mentor.
- Demonstrate leadership skills in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Practice within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards, and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to hospital policies related to medication safety, including order writing format, correct administration considerations, and double checks.
- Answer patient/significant others' phone calls, evaluate patient's needs, and triage patient care.
- Anticipate and intervene appropriately and timely when there are concerns related to patient and staff safety.
- Consistently meet work schedule.
- Role model individualized therapeutic communication based on patient and family psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs.
- Coordinate health care services with hospital, vendors, physician's offices, and other institutions.
- Delegate appropriately according to task situation, level of expertise, and function as an independent and supportive team member.
- Demonstrate critical thinking utilizing all aspects of the nursing process.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care that recognizes changes in the patient's condition and adapts the plan as needed.
- Independently perform a comprehensive assessment to provide the most effective patient care for a given population.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients.
- Perform nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients.
- Provide direct nursing care for specified patients, including appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed.
- Provide patient/family education using resources available.
- Seek out additional learning experiences within the practice area: unit-specific certifications, consultation with experts, in-services/rounds, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.
- Utilize technology correctly for functions related to patient care delivery, mandatory programs/competencies, and policies/procedures.
Requirements:
- High School Graduate
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing (Kansas) or compact license
- CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
- Some units will require additional unit-specific affirmations/certifications/work experience
