    Senior Physician Assistant

    The role of the Senior Physician Assistant within the Department of Emergency Medicine is to provide independent, advanced level clinical operations to Emergency Medical patients as well as their families. This includes the management of chronic or stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, while following specialty protocols as defined by standardized procedures. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures including surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedure for your specific department. This position has clinical responsibilities in both outpatient and inpatient environments as well as pre and post-operative coordination and management. Patient management decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. Physician Assistants are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents, and other ancillary staff.

    Requirements

    • California Licensed Physician Assistant (PA).
    • National Certification (NCCPA) as a Physician Assistant in an aligned specialty with the practice area.
    • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
    • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
    • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
    • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification within 1 year of hire.
    • Graduation with a master's or PhD degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
    • At least five years full-time, or equivalent, experience as a PA in the aligned specialty.
    • Ability to provide direct patient care to a diversified complex patient population.
    • Ability to serve as an operational leader in precepting and educating students, residents, and advanced practice learners.
    • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
    • Ability to participate in patient and staff education.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role.
    • Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider.

    Department Overview

    Emergency Medicine provides Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma care for more than 33 of California's 58 counties. UC Davis Health System is home to state-of-the-art emergency care for children. Our Pediatric Emergency Department features the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in inland Northern California (verified by the American College of Surgeons). From Portland to Fresno, from outside the Bay Area to Reno, no other hospital in inland Northern California has a Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center servicing approximately 70,000 patients each year.

    The Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Davis provides a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, 42 residents, and a total of 26 specialists of every medical and surgical specialty to treat critically ill and injured adults and children. Our team provides an extraordinary level of knowledge, skill, and compassion to every patient we serve at our Level 1 Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion. The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive and efficient emergency care to patients in need of medical and surgical specialty physicians to treat critical and acute illnesses and injuries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
