    Job Description:

    • Accurately record, interpret, and administer treatment prescribed by radiation oncologists.
    • Take daily images, analyze them, and make adjustments to ensure accurate treatment.
    • Operate a CT scanner during simulation to assist in localizing and outlining anatomical areas requiring treatment.
    • Maintain continual contact with patients, educating them about treatment, simulation procedures, and potential radiation side effects.
    • Monitor and observe each patient's clinical progress and emotional needs.
    • Refer patients to physicians, nurses, or social service professionals when necessary.

    Requirements:

    • Graduate of a formal radiation therapy technology program accredited by the Joint Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
    • Licensed by the WV Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners as a Radiation Therapist.
    • Board Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy Technology.
    • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
    • West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.

    Core Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Administer external radiation therapy to patients as prescribed.
    • Ensure patient positioning and treatment beam placement conform to planned specifications.
    • Perform simulations and localization following established protocols.
    • Prepare and construct equipment such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices.
    • Assist in preparing the physical and technical aspects of radiation treatment plans.
    • Educate and reassure patients and their families regarding treatment and post-treatment care.
    • Plan and perform procedures for the treatment and imaging of patients.
    • Perform daily equipment warm-up and quality checks.
    • Determine technical charges and assign appropriate CPT codes.
    • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and activities.
    • Maintain professional and technical competencies.
    • Train and mentor students from Radiation Therapy Technology Programs.
    • Schedule patients for simulation and treatment procedures.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white monitor or photograph.
    • Stand and walk for up to 8 hours a day.
    • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; carry up to 20 pounds.
    • Ability to see details at close range.

    Working Environment:

    • Large clinical area requiring interaction with healthcare professionals.
    • Presence of computers/computer monitors essential for job tasks.
    • Presence of radiation-producing equipment.
