Coding Technician

Works under the direct supervision of the Coding and Reimbursement Manager, Health Information Management. Codes inpatient, outpatient surgery, and observation visits utilizing the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding classification systems. Assists in the training of new coding technicians when appropriate. Promotes University Health's guest relations policy.

Job Description

• Code inpatient, outpatient surgery, and observation visits utilizing the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding classification systems
• Assist in the training of new coding technicians when appropriate
• Promote University Health's guest relations policy

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent is required
• Must have three years of inpatient coding experience
• Formalized education and training through an accredited coding program required
• Possess one of the following certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
• Knowledgeable of regulatory requirements
• Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products as well as 3M Encoding and Grouping software
