Laboratory Technician
Join our team as a Laboratory Technician, where you will perform and submit accurate results on specimens for laboratory analysis to aid physicians in the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients. This role involves recognizing unusual results and taking prompt action to ensure the accuracy and validity of test results while maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism.
Job Description
- Perform and submit accurate results on specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Discriminate between closely similar items and correct by using preset guidelines.
- Perform simple maintenance of instruments.
- Recognize unusual results and/or abnormalities and take appropriate action.
- Notify the supervisor when no preset criteria for decision-making are available.
- Assume accountability for the dissemination of patient information to ensure confidentiality and privacy.
- Conduct oneself as a professional and perform assigned duties accurately and rapidly.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years technical experience in a specific clinical laboratory department.
- Associate's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology, or equivalent education and training.
- High school graduate or equivalent with military training of 50 or more weeks as a medical laboratory specialist, or a Medical Laboratory Science Student within their last 6 months of graduation from an accredited clinical training program.
Licensure/Certification
- Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required.
- Certification in the specialty for the area of laboratory employment is required without a Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) certification. Must obtain certification in clinical laboratory sciences or laboratory categorical within the first six months from the date of hire and maintain certification status in compliance with continuing education requirements.
