Nurse's Aide

Job Description
- Assist in ambulation and transfers from and to bed, toilet, chair, or stretcher.
- Transport residents via wheelchair, stretcher, or ambulation to other parts of the home when necessary.
- Assist or feed residents as indicated.
- Offer and remove bedpans and/or urinals.
- Keep incontinent residents clean and dry.
- Give bed baths, tub baths, and provide skin care. Trim nails and assist with care of hair and oral hygiene. Provide morning and evening care by washing and grooming residents.
- Assist residents to dress and undress.
- Prepare residents to receive Holy Communion.
- Sort, fold, and distribute personal clothing of residents.
- Serve water and nourishment.
- Serve and collect trays.
- Answer lights or bells and inquiries by residents or visitors.
- Participate in bowel and bladder rehabilitation programs for residents.
- Collect specimens and measure intake and output, keeping records of the same.
- Take temperature, pulse, and respiration. Prepare ice packs or other resident care equipment when directed by the Nurse in charge.
- Observe residents and note physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetites, and report changes or unusual findings to the Charge Nurse.
- Sign the aide book kept at the nurses' station before going off duty.
- Attend regularly scheduled in-service classes as required by HOME and NYSAOH regulations.
- Take care of residents' personal clothing.
- Change linens and make beds. Replace towels and washcloths.
- Clean equipment (carbonized beds, stands, etc.) as directed by the nurse. Keep utility and service rooms in order.
- Clean the tub and shower after residents' use. Oversee general neatness of the unit.
- Mop the floor when an accident has occurred if a porter is not present. Keep the lounge neat, clean, and in order.
- Care for the residents' unit (flowers, dresser, closet, bedside stand).
- Assist other employees where needed.
- Be responsible and cooperative with supervisors, fellow employees, residents, and families.
- Maintain a friendly working atmosphere.
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
- Provide assistance with resident care where applicable.
- Promote the organization's and department's image, philosophy, and policies.
- Follow organization and departmental policies and procedures.
- Follow assigned safety, security, and fire procedures.
- Report any accidents or dangerous situations immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality of organizational and resident information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- A minimum of 1 year prior experience
- Must possess New York State Certification as a Nurse's Aide
