Oncology Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)

Job Description:
- Work in a team environment to provide care to in/out patients from the oncology service.
- Use clinical knowledge and VRCCO's SOP to administer chemotherapy and other treatments.
- Ensure patients' treatments are completed safely and timely.
- Communicate effectively, handle medical situations, and take direction.
- Maintain a calm, organized, and efficient work manner.
Essential Functions:

Maintenance of hospital:
- Disinfect kennels, treatment tables, and other surfaces.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment.
- Launder towels, blankets, and surgical gowns.
- Stock necessary supplies and remove garbage.

Patient Care:
- Restrain patients for exams and treatments.
- Walk, feed, and bathe patients.
- Administer drugs, fluids, and medications.
- Assist in examinations, diagnostics, and surgeries.
- Perform diagnostic tests and monitor anesthesia.
- Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery.
- Administer chemotherapy treatments per SOPs.

Client Communications:
- Obtain and write pet histories.
- Provide nursing updates and treatment plans.
- Review discharge summaries and educate pet parents.
- Assist with telephone inquiries and scheduling.

Laboratory:
- Collect and handle laboratory samples.
- Perform in-house laboratory tests.
- Store and package samples for external submission.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies.

Radiology:
- Perform radiographic procedures.
- Conduct CT scans and ensure equipment maintenance.
- Restrain patients for ultrasounds.

Other:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- CVT credential or equivalent from an accredited veterinary program.
- Current certification and licensure in the state of practice.
- Understanding of veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
- Preferred experience in Oncology or Specialty Medicine.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Calm and reassuring in stressful situations.
- Medical math proficiency.
- Knowledge of feline and canine anatomy.
- Strong customer service skills.
Physical Demands:
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Team lift and carry up to 150 lbs.
- Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and endurance.
- Wear protective gear as necessary.
- Work with high levels of animal sounds and bodily fluids.
