Emergency Department Veterinarian

We currently provide dermatology, internal medicine, medical oncology, neurology, surgery, physical rehabilitation, ophthalmology, emergency, and urgent care services. Job Description:
- Provide timely and comprehensive medical care to patients, including conducting physical examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests, and administering necessary treatments
- Maintain accurate records of all services rendered and ensure clear communication with clients or referring veterinarians regarding patient status and treatment plans
- Actively participate in promoting the practice and contribute to the educational development of interns and externs
- Provide leadership and day-to-day coaching to CVTs and Assistants within the Emergency service
- Deliver an exceptional level of care to patients and pet-parents while maintaining a positive work environment
Essential Functions:
Leadership:
- Collaborate with veterinarian peers and staff to create a great working environment where the needs of the pet-parents, patient guest, support staff, and doctors are met and our core values are lived
- Provide guidance, day-to-day coaching, and direction for a team of Technicians and Assistants in the Emergency service
- Use and improve workflow processes for positive patient outcomes, pet-parent experience, and staff effectiveness
- Shape our hospital culture by leading by example in day-to-day actions and conversations that foster VRCCO's Core Values
- Engage the team in collective problem-solving
- Facilitate clear and consistent communication with all team members and clients
- Participate in regular employee meetings and reviews for the ED service with the assistance of the Chief of Emergency and Chief of Patient Care, and Human Resource Director
- Set annual and quarterly goals for self and direct reports, with consistent and regular progress check-ins with the Medical Director, and Chief of Emergency
- Maintain accountability for self and team of goal completion and function as a resource to the team to remove roadblocks for goal completion
Operations:
- Take and record patient histories
- Perform physical examinations
- Provide, perform, and/or interpret laboratory, radiographic, and other tests and data
- Provide therapeutic measures necessary for the medical and/or surgical treatment of patients; maintain appropriate records regarding all services rendered
- Fully inform clients (or referring veterinarian(s) if applicable), of the status of their patient(s) and ensure that timely informed consent for all treatment is obtained
- Promote the practice and marketing of our services
- Receive and manage cases for all departments as requested
- Participate in rounds and intern/extern/resident education
- Conduct in-house continuing education
- Induce and intubate and monitor for anesthetic procedures
- Induce and monitor for sedation procedures
