Job Description:
- Work in a team environment to provide care to inpatients primarily in the surgery service.
- Play a crucial role in the safe and effective management of anesthesia and pain in pets undergoing surgical procedures.
- Use advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and the Veterinary Referral Center of Central Oregon's SOPs to treat patients in accordance with the primary surgeon's directions.
- Collaborate with the primary surgeon in developing and implementing an anesthetic plan.
Essential Functions:
- Inspect and troubleshoot anesthesia machines and equipment.
- Perform pre-anesthetic assessments and patient evaluations.
- Collaborate in selecting and administering anesthetics and fluids.
- Manage airway and pulmonary status using various methods.
- Monitor anesthetic emergence and recovery.
- Mentoring and training of veterinary technicians.
Maintenance of Hospital:
- Disinfect kennels and exam rooms.
- Maintain medical equipment and instruments.
- Stock necessary supplies and manage waste disposal.
Patient Care:
- Restrain patients for exams and treatments.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and pain levels.
- Perform medical treatments under supervision.
- Manage client communications and provide updates.
Laboratory:
- Collect and handle laboratory samples.
- Perform in-house laboratory tests and assist with radiology procedures.
Requirements:
- Credentialed in Advanced training and Education in Anesthesia and Analgesia (AVTAA).
- Current certification and licensure in the state of practice.
- Experience in veterinary emergency, critical care, and surgery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced technical skills in anesthesia and related tasks.
- Ability to participate in CE events and research projects.
- Strong customer service and people skills.
Physical Demands:
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs; team lift up to 150 lbs.
- Perform various physical activities throughout the day.
- Work within an environment with high levels of animal sounds and bodily fluids.
