    Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery APP Needed

    WPA Medicine Staffing is seeking a Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery APP for weekend call coverage beginning January 2026. This opportunity supports primarily inpatient cardiothoracic and vascular surgery services and offers recurring 4-day weekend coverage with rounding and call responsibilities.

    Job Description

    • Start March 2026
    • Coverage Type: 4-Day Weekend Call (Friday to Monday)
    • Commitment: Minimum 3 months (6 months preferred)
    • Schedule: 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM weekend call; rounding followed by call/emergent coverage
    • Setting: Primarily Inpatient
    • Onsite Requirement: Onsite for rounding; pager call thereafter with requirement to remain within minutes of the hospital
    • Credentialing Timeframe: 60+ days

    This role supports cardiothoracic and vascular surgery services with a focus on inpatient care. Responsibilities include weekend rounding, CVSICU post-operative patient management and resuscitation, responding to nursing and patient calls, inpatient consults, stat changes in clinical status, and participation in emergent OR cases. The APP must be EVH-capable and experienced with chest tube placement. Case volume includes approximately open heart procedures and TAVRs annually. The APP will work alongside cardiac and thoracic/vascular surgeons, fellow APCs, and nursing staff, using EPIC EMR and the Maquet Hemopro 2 vein harvest system. Patient encounters average per shift, with occasional ancillary support to vascular surgery services as needed.

    Requirements

    • Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with cardiothoracic surgery experience
    • EVH-capable with experience in open and endoscopic vein harvest; open radial artery harvest preferred but not required
    • ACLS and BLS required
    • Open to active license candidates and those in the standard licensure process
    • Influenza vaccination may be declined with mask compliance per health system policy
