Lead Radiation Therapist
Job Description:
- Share in the management of the department in collaboration with the Radiation Oncology Manager.
- Maintain overall quality control of treatments.
- Orient, educate, and supervise Staff Radiation Therapists.
- Develop department programs and assist in the formulation of policies and procedures.
- Promote the philosophy and goals of the Radiation Oncology Department through leadership and professional development of the staff.
Requirements:
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- Graduate of a formal radiation therapy technology program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Licensed by the WV Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners.
- Board Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal if applicable.
Experience:
- Five (5) years of clinical experience as a radiation therapist.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- Bachelor's Degree in healthcare field.
Experience:
- Seven (7) years of experience as a radiation therapist.
- Knowledge of Varian linear accelerators and ARIA Oncology Information System.
- Previous experience in a leadership role.
Core Responsibilities:
- Administer external radiation therapy as prescribed.
- Perform simulations and localization according to protocols.
- Coordinate activities of Staff Radiation Therapists.
- Lead the team in developing new techniques and resolving clinical problems.
- Manage triage of emergent cases and coordinate on-call activities.
- Train and mentor students, providing feedback and assessments.
- Ensure safe utilization of electronic medical records and verification systems.
- Manage therapists during equipment failures and notify relevant parties.
- Participate in departmental meetings and lead therapist huddles.
- Work with staff to efficiently solve treatment planning and delivery problems.
- Develop orientation plans for new staff.
- Provide input into performance evaluations and recruitment processes.
- Assess and evaluate equipment and supplies for the department.
Physical Requirements:
- Differentiate various shades of gray on monitors or photographs.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours a day.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; carry up to 20 pounds.
