    Forensic Psychiatrist

    Join our dynamic team as a Forensic Psychiatrist with YesCare located at the Lexington Fayetteville Detention Center in Kentucky. This part-time position requires 12 hours a week and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of correctional healthcare.

    Job Description

    • Assess the mental health, emotional, and behavioral factors relevant to legal cases.
    • Provide expert opinions, consultation, and testimony in court proceedings to help inform legal decisions.
    • Provide diagnostic evaluation and treatment to patients in the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU)/Competency Restoration Program (CRP).
    • Provide consultation, clinical direction, general supervision, and training to the Unit/Program staff.
    • Provide onsite treatment for competency/restoration forensic patients; conduct clinical assessments; prescribe medication; handle medical emergencies as needed.
    • Develop treatment plans and transition planning; develop after-discharge care plans. Facilitate transition planning/Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with receiving treatment units.
    • Participate in competency evaluations and court testimony as needed; prepare and submit case reports or summaries to government or mental health agencies.
    • Provide medication management to all patients admitted to the BHU/CRP.
    • Consult with legal professionals to provide expert insights and guidance on mental health-related aspects of cases.
    • Approve all admissions and discharges into the BHU/CRP. Approve, sign, and monitor the implementation and efficiency of treatment plans.
    • Provide in-service education to the BHU/CRP staff as needed.
    • Be available on a scheduled basis for the on-call needs of the BHU/CRP staff.
    • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement audits and initiatives.
    • Develop risk assessments and provide recommendations on release.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment programs for incarcerated individuals.
    • Advise correctional facilities on mental health policies and procedures.
    • Participate in all Multi-Disciplinary Treatment team meetings with patients held weekly for the BHU/CRP.
    • Participate in BHU/CRP specific team meetings and Behavioral Health meetings.
    • Participate in weekly clinical meetings with stakeholders.
    • Facilitate screening of patients for appropriateness for entry into the BHU and/or CRP treatment outside of the BHU.
    • Facilitate screening of patients for readiness for re-evaluation of competency.
    • Provide relevant training to staff on identified topics relevant to the treatment of forensic patients within a correctional setting.
    • Assist in treatment outcome monitoring through participation and oversight of data collection.
    • Participate in the development of the BHU/CRP Operations Manual.
    • Conduct weekly rounds on the patients in the BHU/CRP.
    • Participate in the quality assurance process by reviewing documentation and treatment plans for patients in the BHU/CRP.

    Requirements

    • Must be a graduate of medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency.
    • Must have 1 year Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry.
    • Corrections experience preferred.
    • Must be licensed to practice in the applicable state and certified by the Office of Mental Health to provide psychiatric services in a licensed inpatient unit. Current DEA number will need to be provided.
    • A background check, security clearance, and drug screening are required for this role.
