    Specimen Processing Technician 1st Shift

    Location: Tampa, FL - ON SITE

    Job Description:

    • Responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
    • Requires a data entry background.
    • Functions include A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
    • Perform all tasks with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
    • Requires good organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by clients.
    • Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.
    • Critical to quality for customer satisfaction.
    • Requires great flexibility due to daily changes.
    • Exposed to various demands made by customers.
    • Majority of work on the nightshift; weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime availability required.

    Department is a production environment, emphasizing productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times. Requires data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour. Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits. Able to sit or stand for long periods. Communicates effectively with all levels of staff. Adheres to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures. Keeps work area neat and clean. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive environment. Demonstrates flexibility and ability to adapt to change.

    Requirements:

    • HS diploma or equivalent.
    • Basic understanding of computers with preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
    • No experience required, but previous laboratory experience preferred.
    • Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
    • Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
    • Previous experience in a production environment preferred.

    Additional Information:

    Candidate must have reliable transportation to get to/from worksite without issue. Must be available to work whenever scheduled and stay for the entire shift, along with being on time. Ensure you verify the commute time to/from the physical work location. Candidates need to be within a 20-25 min commute window to ensure their ability to travel to/from the site for coverage. Position requires standing, lifting, and moving the majority of the shift.
