Specimen Tech - 3rd Shift
Location: Lenexa, KS- ON SITE
Job Description:
- Responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
- Requires a data entry background.
Responsibilities:
- Perform functions such as A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Ensure all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
- Requires good organization skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by clients.
- Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.
- Critical to quality for customer satisfaction.
- Flexibility required due to daily changes.
- Majority work on the night shift but may require weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime availability.
Skills or Requirements:
- Basic understanding of computers with preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
- Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
- Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
- Able to sit or stand for long periods.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
- Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.
- Keep work area neat and clean.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
Education/Experience:
- HS diploma or equivalent.
- No experience required but previous laboratory experience preferred.
- Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
- Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus but not required.
- Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
