**About the Facility**

The Shiprock Service Unit (SRSU) is the largest geographical service unit of the Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS). The SRSU population extends into New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. Its responsibilities include administrative oversight of one hospital, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), and two health centers: Four Corners Regional Health Center and Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center.

NNMC provides a wide range of primary and specialty care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including medical-surgical, pediatric inpatient, labor and delivery, intensive care units, internal medicine, family practice, urgent and emergency care, women's health, pharmacy, optometry, dental, radiology, public health nursing, medical social services, health promotion/disease prevention, and traditional medicine. The facility has 55 inpatient beds. Additionally, the NNMC Emergency Department is certified as PEDS Ready by the New Mexico Emergency Medical Services for Children and the University of New Mexico Child Ready Program, ensuring effective emergency care for children.

**Job Description**

- Perform general surgery physician duties and manage patient needs.
- Provide professional medical services or direct patient care services in accordance with established standards of care.
- Participate in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures involved in the examination, treatment, and care of general surgical patients at Indian Health Service, Northern Navajo Medical Center.
- Cross-over with the inpatient General Surgery service and admit new patients to the hospital.
- Consult with surgical staff and anesthesia staff on matters of patient care.
- Review clinical records and adhere to documentation procedures to ensure proper maintenance of records.

**Requirements**

- Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree.
- Must be either Board Eligible as per ABIM regulations or ABIM certified.
- Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Must have a Federal DEA number.
- Must have current BLS and ACLS certifications.
