    Job Description:

    • Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and/or nursing staff.
    • Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records or inputs information to patients' medical records.
    • Prepares treatment rooms for the examination of patients.
    • May draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
    • May perform administrative duties such as ordering supplies, answering the phone, and scheduling appointments.

    Essential Functions:

    • Obtains appropriate patient medical history necessary to perform diagnostic procedures as ordered.
    • Performs proper patient/specimen identification and labeling according to policy.
    • Documents patient care and data collection appropriately in patient records.
    • Assists physician/provider with patient exams, including patient positioning and collection of specimens.
    • Performs invasive procedures under direct supervision.
    • Obtains blood specimens in a timely manner while adhering to universal precautions.
    • Retrieves test results and clinical documents.
    • Ensures quality and safety compliance of lab equipment.
    • Verifies accurate handling of all lab samples.
    • Maintains professional standards and a safe and clean environment.
    • Practices fiscal responsibility and accountability.

    Requirements:

    • Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
    • Certification: Medical Assistant Certification (CMA).
    • Experience: One year of Medical Assistant experience preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required.
    • Knowledge of basic patient care procedures.
    • Efficient time management and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to communicate and positively interact with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks under stressful conditions.
    • Math aptitude and computer knowledge for electronic record entry.
