Sonographer II Diagnostic US Echocardiography
Location: Butte, Montana
Job Description:
- Performs a variety of diagnostic cardiac/vascular exams under the direction of a physician for identification of abnormalities leading to patient diagnosis.
- Produces high quality ultrasound images and obtains appropriate measurements for each exam.
- Recognizes the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal tissue structures and provides the best image quality for documentation.
- Documents all applicable patient and procedure data consistently and correctly.
- Obtains and evaluates pertinent patient history and physical findings that may affect the sonographic examination.
- Explains procedures adequately to patients to maximize patient comfort and cooperation.
- Monitors during all phases of procedure with special care taken to ensure patient emotional and physical well-being.
- Communicates patient information in a professional and courteous manner to patients and to referring physician offices as required.
- Maintains the ultrasound equipment for cleanliness and ensures proper equipment maintenance and equipment safety.
- Calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed.
- Schedules and coordinates tests.
- Prepares and maintains operational logs.
- Assists with Quality Assurance/Improvements audits and activities as required.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Sonography program, required
- One (1) current/valid certification from the following list required:
- Registry Eligible
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification with Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential, required
- Two (2) years related sonography experience, required
Physical Requirements:
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
