Dental Assistant
Provide direct support to dentists, hygienists, denturists, and other provider personnel in the delivery of dental care and service within a Kaiser Permanente dental office.
Job Description
- Perform all duties permitted for a dental assistant consistent with training and under the observation of a licensed provider, including applying topical anesthetic, removing sutures, retracting tissue during operations, assisting with rubber dams, and taking impressions.
- Support the practice of a dentist provider who is not an orthodontist by performing tasks such as selecting and sizing bands, removing fixed orthodontic appliances, and taking intra-oral measurements for orthodontic procedures.
- Organize patients' dental records, confirm their availability, and ensure they are ready for provider use at the time of care.
- Anticipate the needs of the provider in delivering patient care, maintain a clean operating field, and record information in patients' dental records according to established procedures.
- Respond to medical emergency situations and expose and process dental radiographs as required.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and well-supplied work environment consistent with infection control guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the office manager or supervisory personnel that are consistent with training and experience.
Requirements
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as a dental assistant or a graduate from an ADA accredited dental assisting program.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Dental Radiation Proficiency Certificate (Oregon).
- Pit and Fissure Sealant Certificate (Oregon) within 6 months of hire.
- Expanded Function Dental Assistant Certificate (Oregon) within 3 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire.
Additional Requirements
- Demonstrated competence in four-handed dentistry technique.
- Satisfactory knowledge and proficiency in the use of current dental materials, instruments, and equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under both direct and indirect supervision.
- Well organized in the use of time and effort.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to act professionally when interacting with patients, providers, and other employees.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Final candidate is required to pass a clinical pre-employment skills test.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of sterilization and infection control equipment.
