    Peer Recovery Support Specialist

    The purpose of this position is to serve as part of the Behavioral Health team for Substance Use Disorders. The role of the Peer Recovery Support Specialist is to support others in recovery. The Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to individuals with substance use disorders (SUD) to assist in recovery. The Specialist will collaborate with the Substance Use Treatment Coordinator (SUTC) to promote recovery.

    Job Description

    • Assist individuals in their own plan of recovery. Promote self-advocacy by assisting individuals in expressing their own voice, needs, goals, and objectives.
    • Provide recovery education to individuals for every phase of the recovery journey.
    • Participate as part of the recovery team of physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, and medical professionals. Employee should be familiar with community resources to address patient psychosocial and substance use needs.
    • Work collaboratively with community mental health providers and community support services to develop, provide, and support a continuum of care for patients.
    • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual self-help that support recovery).
    • Provide assistance in capturing program evaluation, logs, and fidelity measures as directed.
    • Work collaboratively to assist in monitoring the SUTC program and identifying areas for improvement. Participate in meetings and quality improvement activities, continuing education, and serve as a member of committees, as requested.
    • Assist individuals in developing their own plan for advancing their recovery.

    Requirements

    • High School Degree or GED
    • Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
    • Certified Peer Recovery Supporter in Ohio within 6 months of hire
    • Established relationships with the treatment community
    • Working knowledge of motivational interviewing
    • Must meet qualifications for certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter in Ohio
    • 3-4 years experience in customer service
    • Strong knowledge of alcohol and drug treatment systems
