Senior/Lead Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist)

Job Description:
- Perform a variety of patient testing in multiple laboratory disciplines and specialty laboratories.
- Provide technical direction and oversight in the Microbiology Laboratory.
- Demonstrate advanced level competencies in producing accurate laboratory test results.
- Serve as a resource to staff, gather data for quality improvement purposes, assess testing personnel competency levels.
- Assist with new test development and validation studies.
- Serve as a preceptor in teaching multiple types of learners and training of new employees.
- Provide leadership in the laboratory during mid to late day activities.
- Responsibilities in Central Processing, Bacteriology, and Special Microbiology sections, including Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, and Sendouts.
- Perform tasks such as specimen processing and setup, Gram stains, rapid antigen testing, plate reading of cultures, susceptibility testing, and organism identification.
- M(ASCP) and SM(ASCP) certifications are acceptable.
Work Schedule:
- Dayshift position with a start time between 9:00 am-11:00 am.
- Eight-hour dayshift option, Monday-Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays.
- Ten-hour dayshift options:
- Thursday-Sunday (every weekend), with rotating holidays.
- Wednesday-Friday and every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday), with rotating holidays.
- Other schedule options can be discussed at the interview.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
- May serve as a Lead Technologist or Program Manager in areas such as quality control, education, competency, equipment, safety, etc.
- Monitor daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
- Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
- Perform non-routine, more complex test procedures including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests.
- Perform quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratories.
- Report results to healthcare providers and consult regarding test results.
- Review test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.
- Train new employees and teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents. Serve as a technical resource.
Requirements:
- Requires Bachelor's of Science degree.
- Requires MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification.
- Requires two years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, medical laboratory technician, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.
