CT Technologist
Job Description:
- Performs computed tomography (CT), general radiology, and fluoroscopy, including portable procedures, to produce cross-section images of patient’s internal organs and tissues for diagnosis.
- Requires rotating weekends and shifts, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed to provide 24/7 coverage.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform accurate CT procedures according to protocol, using optimal techniques for patients of all ages.
- Ensure correct positioning of patients, prepare equipment, and monitor patient conditions before, during, and after scanning.
- Perform contrast injections as ordered by a physician and report critical findings.
- Assist physicians with invasive procedures as necessary.
- Enter data into the HIS system to order exams and use the RIS to capture patient visit and charge information.
- Adhere to radiation safety measures and infection control guidelines.
- Supervise radiography students in the clinical setting and communicate with the manager or department director on issues concerning departmental productivity.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills.
Education:
- Completion of an AMA accredited Radiology Technology program required.
Experience:
- 1 year as a Staff Radiologic Technologist preferred.
- 1 year as a CT Technologist or dedicated clinical rotation in a hospital preferred.
Certification & Licensures:
- ARRT (R) registered required.
- ARRT (CT) registry certification required within 2 years of hire.
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved required.
- Virginia Radiologic Technologist license application submitted prior to hire and licensure obtained within 90 days of hire required.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of human growth and development, computer technology, human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology required.
- Excellent communication skills and accuracy in positioning and exposure techniques required.
- Ability to perform general diagnostic radiography/fluoroscopy and portable radiography examination required.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and operate CT scan equipment with attention to detail required.
- Must be available for on-call rotation and all shifts as needed.
