Job Description

• The Psychiatrist provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment to patients as well as psychiatric consultation, diagnosis, and treatment to patients.
• Provides clinical direction, general supervision, and training to the site staff, and has other managerial responsibilities.
• Approves, signs, and monitors the implementation and efficiency of treatment plans.
• Creates discharge plans to ensure appropriate follow-up and support after discharge from the facility.
• Provides onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of those inmates referred by the medical and clinical services staff.
• Provides written summaries of history, diagnosis, and treatment course.
• Where applicable, provides psychiatric services for inpatients, assessment, diagnosis, staffing, treatment planning, and regular review of all inmates assigned.
• Where applicable, provides psychiatric services for all inmates referred to the Healthcare Unit for those inmates in the general population who need regular psychiatric/behavioral health follow-up.
• Where applicable, provides psychiatric services for those inmates who need to be transferred to Behavioral Health facilities. Services include work-up and any court hearing testimony needed.
• Where applicable, acts as regular Psychiatrist and participates in the treatment programming and planning for the Behavioral Health Unit (if applicable). Duties include regular staffing and contact with Behavioral Health Unit staff and supervisor, discussion of problem cases, follow-up and monitoring of medication, and general psychiatric input.
• Provides medication management to all inmates admitted.
• Provides individual and/or group therapy as appropriate.
• Approves all admissions and discharges into the Behavioral Health Unit, if applicable.
• Provides in-service education to the site staff as needed.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

Requirements

• Must be a graduate of medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency.
• Must be licensed to practice in the state of Delaware and certified by the Office of Behavioral Health to provide psychiatric services in a licensed inpatient unit.
• Current DEA number.
• Maintain caseload and performance schedules such as peer review, clinical supervision, administrative meetings, and other administrative functions.
