Dementia Services Assistant
The Dementia Services Assistant is responsible for supporting, planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing programs and services as determined by the Dementia Services Educator. Pay rate for this position starts at $18.00/hr. and is commensurate with experience.
Job Description
- Develops, implements, and facilitates individual, small and large group memory support and cognitive enhancement programs
- Provides support, insight, and professional suggestions to residents, caregivers, and families
- Facilitates resident and family consultations and Caregiver's Support Group, as needed
- Develops communications and promotional materials that encourage residents to attend and participate in cognitive enhancement and memory supported programs and activities
- Communicates changes in the residents' condition or behavior pattern to the appropriate team member(s)
- Provides dementia-related training and education programs as needed
- Collaborates with other Williamsburg Landing departments, including but not limited to the Nursing department, medical teams, Clinic, Social Workers, Dining Services, and Activities staff, to meet resident needs
- Attends and contributes to the resident review team, "Care Plan," and new admission meetings as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and dementia-related issues
- Ability to work with and develop innovative and effective programs for residents in varying stages of illness
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferred
- 1-2 years of experience within aging services or behavioral health and developmental services industry
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of psycho-social needs of adults in varying stages of dementia
- Comprehensive knowledge of therapeutic programs that meet specific individual needs
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and respond appropriately in the event of an emergency
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office, and internet-based research
