- Monitor the sleeping patient with documentation of significant events, ensuring continuous and accurate data collection, and assist the patient when necessary.
- Facilitate the maintenance of a sleep database.
- Troubleshoot equipment and take appropriate action to bring equipment back to operational standards.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize according to hospital and department standards for infection prevention.
- Use independent judgment in the application of policies/protocols and be self-motivated to take responsible and professional action within the scope of practice.
- Maintain a patient-centered focus and strive to support the mission, goals, and values of the hospital, department, and division.
- Follow policies, procedures, and department standards.
- Interact with physicians and other health system staff to provide quality, safe, and efficient care for the patient.
- Maintain positive working relations with customers. Demonstrate mature, sensitive, and effective communications with all age groups, especially under high levels of stress.
- Assist in the oversight of other staff members during advanced procedures.
- At the direction of a supervisor, serve as the acting leader as needed.
- Assist in the orientation, training, and evaluating of new graduates, students, and new employees.
- Assist with administrative tasks (e.g., patient scheduling, registration, telephone support) as needed.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

**Requirements**

- High School Graduate
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care or related field and/or a minimum of 2 years of related experience

**Preferred Education and Experience**

- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care or related field
- Master's Degree in Respiratory Care or related field

**Required Licensure and Certification**

- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) within 1 year

**Preferred Licensure and Certification**

- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - State Board of Healing Arts
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)

**Knowledge Requirements**

- Additional respiratory therapy/RPSGT experience
- Experience in clinical instruction of students
- Membership in regional & national Respiratory Therapy or Sleep organizations
